After consideration and review by our staff, we’re excited to announce the winners of Berkeley Economic Review’s Spring 2018 Essay Contest!

1st place:
“America is Failing Both Refugees and Itself” by Daniel Cohen

2nd place:
“Investing in Refuge: The Opportunity Cost of Refuse” by Devesh Agarwal

3rd place:
“Help the World, Help Ourselves!” by Dan Ma

All three essays will be published in the upcoming Spring 2018 Volume of the journal.

BER holds an essay contest every semester, in which UC Berkeley undergraduates of any major may submit a response of 300-500 words to a given prompt about a current economic issue. The chosen winners of the contest receive prizes, awards, and publication in that semester’s edition of the journal. This semester, the prompt was “Increased immigration of refugees would be beneficial for both refugees and the economies they come to. Discuss.”

Stay on the lookout for these fantastic and thoughtful essays as they appear in Volume V of Berkeley Economic Review, and make sure to participate in our essay contest next semester!
